The PADI Open Water Diver course is a basic scuba diving course designed to provide new divers with the knowledge and skills necessary to dive safely. The course is divided into five knowledge development segments, which include quizzes and a final exam.

Academic Path:
The five knowledge development segments of the PADI Open Water Diver course cover topics such as the physics of scuba diving, physiology, dive planning, safety procedures, and the use of scuba equipment. During these segments, students learn the basics of scuba diving, such as air management, buoyancy, and underwater communication.
In addition, each segment includes a quiz that students must complete to verify their understanding of the topic. At the end of the five segments, students must pass a final exam to demonstrate that they have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills for the practical part of the course.
After successfully completing the knowledge development segments and the final exam, students are ready for the practical part of the course, which consists of open water dives supervised by a PADI instructor. During these dives, students put into practice the knowledge and skills learned in the knowledge development segments.
In summary, the PADI Open Water Diver course is divided into five knowledge development segments, which include quizzes and a final exam, to provide new divers with the knowledge and skills necessary to dive safely. Equipment You Will Use:
The Standards and General Procedures describe the equipment required for the course, including a compass for navigation skills, an inflatable signaling tube (or a surface marker buoy) for the corresponding exercise, and a PADI Skill Practice and Dive Planning Slate for open water dives.
Required Standards:
To obtain the PADI Open Water Diver certification, you will need to complete all nine dives, meet the watermanship requirements, and complete the five knowledge development segments, including quizzes and a final exam.
In addition, you will need to provide the required documentation, such as the PADI Release of Liability/Assumption of Risk form, the Diver Medical form, and the PADI Standard Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding.
You will need to complete a total of nine dives to obtain the PADI Open Water Diver certification. The first five dives will be conducted in confined water, and the remaining four in open water.
Open Water Dives #1 and #2 will be conducted at a maximum depth of 12 meters/40 feet, while Open Water Dives #3 and #4 will be conducted at a maximum depth of 18 meters/60 feet.
Minimum Age Requirement:
Junior Open Water Diver: 10 years old
Open Water Diver: 15 years old
Certification Granted:
Upon completion of the PADI Open Water Diver course, you will receive a certification that will enable you to dive safely up to a maximum depth of 18 meters/60 feet. Both the Open Water Diver certification and the Junior Open Water Diver certification (for divers between the ages of 10 and 14) are recognized worldwide.
