The MV Karwela was a former passenger ferry launched in 1943 that operated in Maltese waters for many years. It was intentionally sunk on August 12, 2006, off the coast of Xatt l’Ahmar in Gozo to create an artificial reef and an attraction site for diving tourism.

During winter or for technical decompression dives, a dry suit becomes an almost essential choice to maintain the necessary comfort. An underwater torch is an indispensable tool for illuminating the famous internal staircase and the large ferry halls where natural light begins to fade. Regarding gas management, the use of Nitrox is strongly recommended as it allows a significant extension of no-decompression time on a wreck that develops almost entirely beyond 30 meters in depth.
